The Prairies

Saskatchewan
PFC continues to see growth in engagement with Saskatchewan Institutions, with seven provincial institutions participating in our PF by Phone ministry and 10 federal and provincial institutions involved in our Angel Tree programs.
PFC’s most recent Angel Tree Christmas program reached more than 500 children in Saskatchewan including many in remote areas, with out-of-province sponsors taking on this challenge with great enthusiasm. There is still a need for annual sponsors from the province of Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan is the home of PFC’s longest serving volunteer. For more than 30 years, Bill Tarr is one of the in-prison volunteers at Reginal Correctional Centre, involved in chapels and one-to-one visits for the many incarcerated men.
PFC is seeking to mobilize and engage like-minded local churches who share a vision to be part of a community of reconciliation and restoration. Specifically, we are seeking to build volunteer teams in Prince Albert and Saskatoon in order to launch local in-prison programming and to serve recently released prisoners through our Bridgecare program. If you are living in Saskatoon, please pray about joining us in prison ministry.
Manitoba includes a network of 27 jails and prisons and select transitional houses, where PFC seeks to connect and minister to prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their families. In Manitoba, PFC continues to grow:
- The PF by Phone program is active in seven Institutions, receiving a good volume of calls.
- PFC’s inaugural Bridgecare teams are now active in Winnipeg and we are seeing more referrals coming through the PFC by Phone program.
- PFC’s Sycamore Tree Restorative Justice program brings surrogate victims and offenders together.
- PFC’s in-prison ministry takes place at seven institutions and one transitional house.
- PFC’s annual Angel Tree Ride for Hope fundraisers are continuing with a great response.
PFC’s most recent Angel Tree program experienced immense growth from the year prior, with the overwhelming support of the chaplain and program staff from correctional facilities across the province. The number of children served through the Christmas program reflects an 85% increase over the most recent 3 years, with children representing 73 communities.
We are always seeking new volunteers to serve in Manitoba. We invite you to pray with us for God to raise up new local PFC volunteer teams to serve.
