1Life is an experiential activity that simulates the first thirty days that released prisoners face every day in Canada. PFC invites participants from all walks of life to come behind bars and engage in discussion to bring meaningful solutions to break the cycle of crime that has affected too many people and communities

CHALLENGES TO RELEASED INDIVIDUALS

The Journey Inside

After release from prison, prisoners face a difficult transition into the community beginning with the immediate challenges of reconnecting with family, finding a place to live, finding job opportunities, and becoming part of a stable community. In the absence of these materials, and social supports, ex-prisoners face a high probability of reoffending within 30 days of release.

The Game

The 1Life experience provides a clear understanding of how the pillars of stability (housing, relationships, and employment) affect the likelihood of success within the first thirty days of release from prison. Discussion is aimed to encourage the Canadian Church to enter into a relationship with “the least of these” and share the spiritual journey together.

400+ INDIVIDUALS ARE RELEASED EACH DAY FROM THE FEDERAL SYSTEM

Testimonies

“One participant came up in tears and said, “I now see I have been so judgemental. I used to think, ‘you got yourself into this trouble, find your own way out.’ I had absolutely NO idea of the extenuating circumstances.” That participant has since attended PFC’s Aftercare training and helped to actively involve the church in PFC’s prison ministry.” – PFC Staff

“I would just like to thank you for the opportunity to attend this event. It is very exciting and refreshing to know that others see the obstacles these clients face and are willing to actively be involved in trying to assist them.” – PFC Staff
